Alpha-Aminobutyric acidAminobutyric acid (ABA) is a non-protein amino acid that can protect certain plants from pathogens.
Chemical Formula:
C4H9N1O2
Other names:
Layman's explanation:
Aminobutyric acid (ABA), when introduced onto Arabidopis plants, has the
ability to induce resistance to certain pathogens. ABA protects these plants
against pathogens through activation of natural defense mechanisms of the plant,
such as callose deposition, the hypersensitive response (HR), and the formation
of trailing necroses. The induced resistance is often associated with a process
called priming, which is an increased capacity to mobilize cellular defense
responses. The process of priming also occurred in grapevine plants (Vitis
vinifera) in order to build resistance against downy mildew.
