Layman's explanation: Aspirochlorine is a mild antifungal agent as well as an antibiotic, which was identified in 1976. This naturally occurring product was isolated from Asperigillus tamarii and is believed to be antimicrobial. This agent is the only known natural product that has been derived from glycine. It is also a compound which belongs to the glitoxin family. The antifungal compound has been found to selectively inhibit cell-free protein synthesis but, does not inhibit chitin or DNA.
