Layman's explanation: P-cresol is a crystal at room temperature. When in the liquid phase, it is a combustible liquid and vapor and may be fatal by inhalation, ingestion, and skin contact. It will produce acrid smoke if heated to decomposition. P-cresol is incompatible with acids, bases, and oxidizing agents. Applications of the compound include being an additive to: disinfectants, paintbrush cleaners, herbicides, perfumes, explosives, resins, photographic developers, and metal cleaners.
