Layman's explanation: In 1904, the amino acid isoleucine was isolated from fibrin. Sufficient amounts of dietary protein should provide the body with enough isoleucine, which is about 20 mg per day, while amounts less than that may cause fatigue, depression or confusion. Nonpolar, hydrophobic amino acids such as isoleucine aid in muscle recovery. Additionally, isoleucine assists in maintaining appropriate energy levels.
