Vancomycin
Sorry, this answer is incorrect. Vancomycin was only discovered in 1956 by Pittenger and Brigham, almost 30 years after penicillin. It is found in the soil bacteria Nocardia orientalis in India and Indonesia. Vancomycin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic and often used after treatment with other antibiotics have failed. It acts by inhibiting cell wall synthesis in Gram-positive bacteria. The overuse of broad-spectrum and other antibiotics, however, enhances the development of drug-resistant bacteria.
