Correct! Beta carotene is one of the orange dyes found in most green leaves, and in carrots, pumpkins and other orange vegetables. The compound is itself orange. In the body it is transformed as needed to vitamin A, which plays an essential role in vision, growth, and development of the human body. However excess amounts of beta-carotene are deposited in the skin and often give babies the "healthy orange glow," a harmless condition called carotenemia. The skin color fades when less carotene is consumed.
