Correct! Citric acid is found in large quantities in lemons, oranges and many other fruits. It is responsible for their tart taste. Citric acid is used as food additive for flavor and preservation. It is also used in pharmaceuticals and other consumer products. You can find it in candies and soft drinks, canned food, dietary supplements, but also household cleaners and disinfectants. Citric acid was first isolated from lemon juice by the Swedish chemist Carl Wilhelm Scheele in 1784. Today it is manufactured on large scale by fermentation of cane sugar or molasses in the presence of a fungus.
