Correct! Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone. It is a steroid hormone derived from cholesterol and produced by the male testes as well as the ovaries, the cortex, and adrenal glands. This hormone is required for spermatogenesis (sperm production) in males and promotes the development of secondary sexual characteristics. In humans for example, testosterone is responsible for the deep voice, maturation of the penis, development of scrotum in fetuses, and growth of the beard in men.
